Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, a duology written by Leigh Bardugo, is a modern masterpiece. Everything from the writing style, the choice of words and metaphors to the detailed plot, the duology of Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom is incredible. Bardugo’s ability to lawyer intricate details upon intricate details is mind blowing.
Six of Crows, the first in the series, is a brilliantly crafted story following six unique thieves, cons and scum through the greatest heist of all time. The dialogue and lexicon is carefully chosen and extremely entertaining, perfectly utilizing witty humor, and dry sarcasm, to convey deep emotion and fabricate detailed dialogue. The rich details, and Leigh Bardugo’s ability to glamorize the surprisingly dark world she paints with her words, is magical. The story, the backdrop, the colors all come to life in vivid and vivacious detail, under Bardugo’s influence and instruction.
Normally when the first book is amazing the books that follow in the series are always let downs. However, Crooked Kingdom was even better than the first. The intricacies and details never stopped amazing me, events would happen, seemingly random events, and then suddenly play perfectly into the story. I have never felt anything like it while reading. Many authors try to make these clever connections between events in the story to make them come together at the end. However I find that although many authors try many fail, Leigh Bardugo on the other hand, did this perfectly. Her use of carefully placed events was flawless. You can always tell when an author has truly planned and thought out the plot and story of their novel.
Overall both books were fantastic. If you love fantasie, suspense, drama, rich worlds, layers of detail and fantastic characters then this one's for you. You can not miss this series. It is a must read before you die.
