Grammys 2023: Awards are Going to the Wrong Artists

DANIEL LYNDS | OPINION

The Grammys just happened around a  week ago, and it's really the only time people seem to  talk about them. The viewership has got cut in around half ever since covid 19 started from 18+ million to 8.8 in 2021 to 9.6 the next year in 2022 then 12.5 this year which shows good sign and will take a while to get back to their 2013 numbers.Which was their hightest  but twitter and social media would say otherwise as noone seems to care about the awards at this point. It has felt like the grammys get more and more irrelevant and worse ever since one of the greatest albums ever created from 2018 in astroworld, featuring Drake,Frank Ocean,Juice World ,the Weekend,21 savage,Gonna,Nav,Quavo,Takeoff,Pharell Williams and and Kevin Parker one of the best producers we have . Though all of these artists got robbed and lost to the pretty awful cardi B album: invasion of privacy where all the songs are copy paste and there is no depth or variety. Though this partially leads me to my point earlier is that ever since covid hit and destroyed the grammys in viewership and popularity, like many things during covid people stopped caring and realized how useless the grammys are. Also how most of the grammys are just for popularity and what's the point of grading reviewing music if you can form opinions yourself. It shows the greats of our generation where people like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish ,Harry styles, have more grammys than one of  the greatest artists of all time, Drake.  That right there should say something about the grammys. Now the only way to make the grammys entertaining again. Not another show that has turned fake just to please the media is by making the awards reasonable and taking the votes by the viewers into account and trying to make sure that  the voters understand the meaning and importance of this award to some people . I believe the grammys will get more irrelevant as the years go on along the music community. As these days people are so obsessed with social media and themselves. So with that these big shows will get less attention from society.
