Physiotherapy is a career in which physiotherapists focus primarily on the movement and mobility of their patients. Physiotherapists can work with athletes, in rehabilitation, or with injuries.

The day in the life of a physio therapist depends  on where the physiotherapist works. Their  days may look very different from one physiotherapist to another.  For example if they work in a hospital or a clinic they may start the day by talking with the other physiotherapists and colleagues. After this the physiotherapists will visit patients and take notes on improvement or changes. Physiotherapists may also receive a lunch break, after they may discuss and work with other patients. After this there may be an end of the day meeting similar to the one in the morning to discuss with their colleagues again.

To become a physiotherapist you are required to have a bachloers degree in health sciences for example you could get a bachelors degree in kinesiology. To achieve your degree you could also go to college as well as university.  For example you could go to Langara or another college for two years and then SFU or another university for two years. This saves money and because colleges are smaller then universities you may be able to receive more help in the subjects you are taking to prepare yourself for your university courses.

After you achieve your bachleors degree another step to becoming a physiotherapist is going to physiotherapy school or achieving a masters degree in physiotherapy. This is a 26 month program and at the end you must take the PCE or Physiotherapy Compentancy Exam. This exam makes sure that you are fit to take on the role of a physiotherapist.

The time and costs it takes to become a physiotherapist range on scholarships, how many times you need to take the PCE or your respected courses,  and the amount of time you are able to take all your courses in. A general estimate for tuition costs is roughly $66,692.96. Again the costs could be more or less demanding depending on where you go to school and scholarships. The exam costs for the PCE for 2023 are $1,368. Again these costs could very to as the cost of the PCE seem to go up every year and your personal costs could very to depending on how many tries it takes you to pass the exam.

The time it takes to become a physiotherapist is roughly 4 years of your bachleors degree and 26 months of a masters which evens out to around 6 years and 2 months. Of course this could very too depending on if you plan on graduating early or how many times you need to retake your required courses.

After you complete your degrees you are able to become an exercise physiologist, an athletic coach or therapist, a sports therapist, a physiotherapist, and you are eligible to work in sports management. The pay to be a physiotherapist ranges from province to province the current gross  pay in Ontario is currently $49.90/per hour.

All in all physiotherapy is a demanding occupation due to the large amount of schooling and the tuition costs but I think it is a worthwhile career. If you are still interested in physiotherapy I highly recommend you check out university and college sites as well as job sites such as indeed. You can also check the government of Canada if you would like to learn more about what it is like to pursue physiotherapy as an occupation in Canada or your respected province.
