On the 24th of March, talented songwriters and musicians of the band The Burning Tree performed at Immaculata high to raise money for The Kidney Foundation of Canada. The whole experience, from start to finish, was beyond extraordinary and spectacular.

The members of the musical group are Noah Oulette- our very own dedicated and committed senior at Immaculata and the band’s assigned drummer, Daniel Elston- the guitarist and vocalist of The Burning Tree; Nathan lee - another very talented guitarist and Ricky Elston, the band’s bassist. The Burning tree is a rock band inspired by the likes of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Alice in chains, Nirvana and The Who. Their whimsical name was founded when the musicians saw a literal tree burning at Shine studios, and considering they needed a name, it only seemed like destiny. Oulette said, “We didn't have a name for two months, and we wanted something that just ‘happened’ that we could name our band after.”
Oulette proposed the idea for this fundraiser because of his family's connection to the sensitive topic. After his mother’s kidney transplant, he felt it was a way to give back to the community by doing something he loved. The band played in the school’s auditorium for $10 a ticket, with all the proceeds donated to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. The organization promotes organ donor awareness and fundraises for kidney/renal research at various hospitals across Canada.
With the exception of the Elston Brothers, Daniel and Ricky, the members of the musical group were not familiar with each other. Still, they were all connected through Sunnyside Music School And started their band just over a year ago. The band started their enthusiasm for rock music after listening to rock bands from the '70s, Like Oulette’s favourite band, Led Zeppelin. “When I discovered Led Zeppelin, I went down the rabbit hole and never came out of it.”
Listening to these young, insanely talented musicians leaves you in astonishment; the extraordinary voice of Daniel Elston, Ricky's marvellous way with the bass, Nathan lee beyond incredible talent on the guitar and Noah’s undeniable gift on the drums. The Burning Trees are an unbelievably talented troupe with a great future ahead of them, like that of their mentors.
