“The inheritance games”, the first book of the trilogy, written by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, became very popular on social media shortly after its release in 2020. The third and final book of the series just released this August 28th, “The final gambit”, was less popular and has been rated the lowest of the three books. Here is the first book's plot: “Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her life changes completely when Tobias Hawthrone, a billionaire who she didn’t even know left her all his fortune after his death. To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man's touch -- and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes. Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive.”

As the preview of the book explains, there are a lot of riddles, puzzles and mysteries. That is what the whole book is about, the riddles and games left by the deceased billionaire for Avery and the Hawthorne brothers to play. If you are looking for an epic love story or strong character development, “The Inheritance games” is not for you. Although, you should give it a try. Of course, there is some romance, but the books are mostly mystery and fiction. I personally found it very interesting how the author twisted the story and the different clues Avery had to solve, but I did not connect with any of the characters, since the author didn’t spend much time explaining the characters' past or feelings. It got me hooked from the beginning to the end, and the trilogy definitely deserves its hype. I would recommend this book to everyone because the mystery is worth it.
